Well she was never American in the first place, according to Hattori (I think).

Jodie's nationality actually is American. if you watch episode 345 again, a tiny Jodie appears in a flashback speaking perfect English. the showrunners obviously chose an American living/working in Japan. or they hired one in the US who recorded the tiny Jodie's lines here.
